  1. I have forgotten my password. What do I do?
    1. Click “Yes, help me log in” after “Forgotten your username or password?” on the login page.
    2. Enter either your username or email address. Note: If you attempt to enter both, you will be asked to submit only one.
    3. You will receive an email with a link to confirm your password change request. Follow the link, or copy and paste the URL, to confirm.
    4. You will receive a temporary password in a second email.
    5. Log in by typing this temporary password in the “Current password” field.
    6. Once you are logged in, create and confirm a new password.

  2. When trying to log in, I am being told “LDAP-module cannot connect to any servers.” What do I do?
    1. The LDAP message is displayed when Moodle does not recognize your username. For the Billy Graham School of Evangelism (SOE) Online, your username is the email address you were registered with, so you should confirm that you have typed your email address correctly.

Note: Many browsers try to remember usernames for you, so if your email address begins similarly to a username for a different online account with another group or service, check to make sure it is not entering the username for the other account. The input field is small, and it may hide portions of a larger username or email address so that you cannot see it all unless you attempt to manually change it.

  3. How long do I have to complete the course of study (all four courses)?
    1. SOE Online consists of Courses 1–4. You have 180 days from the time you registered for SOE Online to complete all four courses.

  4. How do I contact Technical Support?
    1. If you haven't found what you are looking for in the FAQs or Introductory Email Attachment, you may:
      1. Go to Online Course Support at onlinecoursesupport.com/billygraham (responses will occur 7 days a week, 9:00 a.m.–midnight ET).
      2. Email SOEOnlineTechSupport@bgea.org. We will attempt to respond as soon as possible during business hours Monday through Friday.
  5. How do I change my email address or other personal information in the course?
    1. Enter the course by clicking on the course title.
    2. Once in the course, click on “Profile” in the Administration block on the left side of the page.
    3. Click on “Edit Profile.”
    4. You can modify your email address or any other field listed on this page.
    5. Your first and last names may be viewable to others in the course. Please do not set these to your username that you use to log in to the course.
    6. When you are finished updating your information, click “Update Profile” at the bottom of the page.

  6. How do I make my email address private?
    1. Click on “Profile” in the Administration block on the left side of the page.
    2. Click on “Edit Profile.”
    3. In the drop down list for Email Display, select "Hide my email address from everyone" to make your email address private to other course participants. Your email will still be visible to the Training Team and Tech Support.

  7. How do I communicate with the Training Team if I have a problem or question?
    1. Click on “Participants” in the People block on the left side of the page.
    2. Click on “SOE Instructor,” which should be the first entry listed.
    3. The SOE Instructor profile will open.
    4. At the bottom of the profile, click “Send message”; a window will open.
    5. Type a brief note or comment to the instructor in the message block, and we will read and respond as quickly as possible.

  8. Sometimes I have problems running the videos. What can I do about that?
    1. The videos in the course are optimized to work well across multiple browsers, working over connections from Wi-Fi to broadband. The player will detect your current bandwidth and stream the video at the optimal setting.

If the videos consistently run slow or hang over Wi-Fi, it may be the strength of the signal. When you're running the video, check the signal strength. If it's consistently low, the videos may not run optimally.

There are additional help topics specific to the player within the player itself, in the control bar on the far right. Click the last button and then the question mark when it appears, and you will get a pop-up window with more details.

If these don't adequately resolve your problems, please contact Tech Support via the block on the left side of each page.

  9. Sometimes I have problems with Adobe Acrobat. What can I do about that?
    1. If you're not running the latest version of Acrobat, you can upgrade your plug-in at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
    2. Some of the files are quite large, so they may take some time to load, especially if you're using Wi-Fi connections. The larger files are in the Reading Assignments. If the files you're having problems with are the larger files, you may want to save them to your hard drive and then open them in Acrobat rather than opening them within the course window.
    3. To download the files, right-click (PC) or option-click (Mac) the filename and select "Save…"

  10. Can I get a copy of the course in print?
    1. The course is currently only available online, due to the number of videos using as teaching elements.

  11. Can I purchase the videos in the course separately?
    1. The videos are currently available only as part of the online course.

  12. How do I purchase the reference reading materials in the course?
    1. Most of the readings are included in the course. If you'd like to purchase any of Billy Graham's books or other materials noted in the course, please visit BillyGrahamBookstore.org.

  13. How can I make comments or suggestions about the course?
    1. At the end of the course you will be asked to complete a brief survey, and you can provide comments or suggestions at that time. If you have more urgent suggestions, you can send them to SOEOnline@bgea.org. Please understand that given the nature of the course and the number of participants, BGEA is unable to provide individual attention to each participant of the course.

  14. Is it possible for me to bookmark where I left off in the course?
    1. Yes, but you'll need to change it each time you leave the course. In your browser, you can bookmark the page where you left off, and when you open that bookmark you will be asked to enter your username and password. When you do, the course will open at the bookmarked page.

  15. Can I use the materials from the course in my own ministry?
    1. All the material in the course is copyright Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, except where otherwise noted. The Terms and Conditions set forth what you can and cannot do with the materials. If you'd like to quote from the materials, it's best to seek permission first.

  16. What are the various menu items on the left side of the page?
    1. People
      1. The Participants link will show you all the participants in the course you are currently working through.
    2. Activities
      1. Forums: These are related to the discussion post questions. Through these links you can see how many discussions are in process, how many unread posts there are in each, whether posts are being tracked, and whether you are subscribed to the forum. If you choose to subscribe, the site will email new posts directly to you.
      2. Quizzes: This link lists the quizzes, allows you to continue prior attempts, and lets you know your score on each quiz.
      3. Resources: This link takes you to a listing of pages or materials in the order in which they appear in the course. Some of these will be locked out until you successfully complete the quizzes as noted above.
    3. Administration
      1. Grades: This provides a listing of the items that are graded in the course—the quizzes in each lesson. Your grades on each and a course total are shown. You can click through directly from here to the items listed if you would like to review or retake any of the graded items.
      2. Profile: This allows you to see your personal profile, edit it, upload a small photo of yourself, set display options on your email, let your fellow participants see what town and country you are in, etc. This link also lets you see your forum posts.
    4. Technical Support
      1. This area provides three options for contacting Tech Support for the training site if you do not find the answers to your questions in the course FAQs.

  17. What's Moodle?
    1. Moodle stands for Modular Object Oriented Distance Learning Environment. It's an open-source learning management system used by over 50,000 educational institutions and companies to deliver courses online.

  18. I’m often sent back to the login page, or I’m not able to access some pages or materials in the course. What can I do about that?
    1. The site uses session cookies to track from page to page. If you do not set your browser to allow cookies on the site, you will have to log in each time you link to a new page.
    2. The course will open new windows as you advance through it, and your browser may consider these to be pop-ups. Please disable your pop-up blocker for this site before attempting to enter the course.

  19. The site doesn't seem to be displaying properly. What can I do about that?
    1. These courses work best with the latest browser versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera. If you are running an older version of one of these browsers, the site may not function properly, and you should upgrade to a new version of the browser you're using.

  20. How do I obtain my course completion certificate at the end of the course?
    1. The next-to-last item in the last lesson is the course certificate. It will be locked until you pass all the quizzes.
    2. When it's unlocked, simply click it, and it will take you to a new window. Click “Get your certificate.” A new window will open with instructions on how your certificate will be mailed to you.
    3. If you do not want your certificate mailed to you, or if the name listed in the online certificate does not reflect what you want printed on the hardcopy certificate, please contact us immediately via email at SOEOnline@bgea.org with “Course certificate update” as the subject line of your email and we will respond as quickly as possible.

  21. Will the School of Evangelism Online provide a mentor for my study?
    1. Some application projects recommend you seek out a mentor (a pastor, colleague in ministry, or other trusted friend with experience in evangelistic preaching) to objectively assist you in the development of your sermons. Because the School of Evangelism Online is a self-led study, no mentor will be assigned by BGEA.
